Just when I think the Bush political machine has hit the bottom of this exceedingly long slide into political irrelevance, something new has emerged. It appears that the U.S. Senate (Republicans) have decided that with all of the urgent and dramatic issues facing our world today, the most productive use of their time is to debate the altering of the Constitution to prohibit the burning of the U.S. Flag. There was an appalling increase of flag burning incidents (up to 4 from only 3 the previous year) and the clear and present danger we all face as a result, will undoubtedly shatter the country if not dealt with right away at the cost of millions of taxpayer dollars. Read the story here.
I am utterly flabergasted at the cynicism this Republican administration has exhibited. I suppose they are convinced that if they can douse the flames on the flag, that Rome itself will stop burning.

My hat is off to Deputy Secretary General Mark Malloch Brown for telling it like it is. The US ambassador John Bolton responded with a thinly veiled threat that he should shut up or the UN will suffer as a result of his remarks. At least it appears there is someone in the UN willing to state, what to some of us is, the obvious. America needs to stop using the UN as an adjunct State Department and let it do what it is meant to do.

As if Congress has not gotten the US in enough trouble by kissing Bush’s ass for so long, they are now debating ceding control of the Internet to the ISPs! Of course you must first start from the preposterous premise that the US owns the Internet in the first place. This site is a blog set up to help people do something about it.

As the year goes on, it must seem more and more to George Bush as if he should have quit while he was ahead and not run for a second term. It appears that the skeletons are all coming out of the closet at once. “Scooter” Libby has fingered Bush as the man who approved the intelligence “leaks” that filtered into the press and helped the White House make a false case for going to war with Iraq.
If this had been a Democratic president, he would surely be hanging from a noose by now. Why is there such a double standard when it comes to censuring/ impeaching a sitting president? From where I stand, Clinton’s blow job was a welcome distraction compared to the brazen lie fest that this administration has foisted on the American people. On this man’s watch we have lost the World Trade Center and the Big Easy, and Iraq is in tatters on the verge of civil war. I say let’s bring out the pitchforks and torches and march to Washington and clean our house.

I believe in freedom of speech… as long it doesn’t hurt innocent people. It seems that Pat Robertson has crossed that line, yet again. In another example of misusing his “bully pulpit”, Robertson has accused Muslims of planning world domination. The BBC has the story here.
This is the same “man of God” that called for the assassination of a duly elected head of state (Hugo Chavez) and claimed that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was struck down by divine intervention for having withdrawn from Gaza. In each case he has apologized afterwards, but the man is clearly laboring under some seriously questionable delusions.
I think it is time to put ol’ Pat out to pasture.
