This article on Slate is hilarious, yet chilling. The changes that have happened in our country since Bush and Co. came to power, have been titanic. I can’t help but feeling that we, and the rest of the world, are much worse off.

A Ray of Light

As much as I disagree with the unjust war in Iraq, I have never taken it out on the troops. As a former soldier, I understand that a sense of duty and honor is alive and well within the ranks of our armed forces. This story reminds me that self-sacrifice and humanity still exist, even in the darkest of circumstances. I, for one, am proud of this young man. He is an inspiration during a period in our history that desperately needs heros.
Let’s Write Our Own Voting Software

Kuro5hin.org has an interesting discussion of the pro’s and con’s of creating an open source project to develop the software to run our voting booths. As I see it, the main advantage would be the ability to examine the source code and verify that there is no, shall we say, “alternative agenda” embedded therein. Good stuff.

It appears that Congress’ approval rating is at a low that was only rivalled by the Congress that tried to impeach Bill Clinton. It is little wonder that even long suffering Americans are starting to get tired of the panderers and influence peddlers that make up the majority of our Federal Legislature.

Bush has nominated the Deputy Secretary of “Offense”, Paul Wolfowitz to be the head of the World Bank! Unbelievable! If the world sits still for this, I will be convinced we are asleep. Now, let’s see if Old or New Europe has any relevance at all, or if it is content to be Bush’s bitch.
